As a lab technician in our Seed Evaluation lab, you are involved in a lot of tasks in the domain of seed analysis and seed evaluation. Your job contains the following tasks:
- You assist in cleaning and analysing of the seed lots;
- You replenish the seed collections;
- You carry out the sowing of the experiments
- You prepare seed shipments …
Beside this you are also involved in new projects concerning quality control.
Profile

Bioinformatician
Job description
As a member of various global teams, you will be responsible for bioinformatics development. In this function, you will collaborate with scientists and software engineers to improve and maintain the worldwide BASF Plant Science bioinformatics databases and platforms.
You will be involved in gene discovery and annotation activities and in defining software and database specifications based on scientific needs.
Evaluation and deployment of bioinformatics software and databases are also a part of your responsibility.
Besides of this expert role, you will also follow up team members in their bioinformatics and software development activities.
Profile
- You have a Phd degree in biology, biotechnology or bio-engineering, with a specialization in bioinformatics or equivalent in experience.
- You are well acquainted with standard bioinformatics tools, languages and databases.
- You are familiar with Java and workflow systems (Taverna).
- You are a communicative teamplayer, fluent in english. You have a customer oriented attitude and you can plan and work independently.
- People management experience is a plus.

Applied plant genomics scientist
Job description:
You will be joining a group of experts, also called Gene Stewards, and will be responsible to select genes that have a potential for beneficial impact on a wide array of crop traits such as improved plant development, enhanced biomass production, yield increase, abiotic stress tolerance and improved usage of inputs like water and nutrients. Besides selecting the genes, you as a Gene Stewards will be responsible to define the proper analyses that need to be conducted, at the molecular, biochemical and phenotypic level. You will follow and coach their selected genes through the entire pipeline. Data analysis is conducted in collaboration with a biometrician and decisions are taken on which genes qualify as product leads for the different crops. You will work in close association with bioinformatics experts and with the Patent Department.
Profile
- Preferably you have a Phd degree in biology, biotechnology or bio-engineering and a profound plant molecular background in one or more of the following fields: growth, development, nutrition or abiotic stress. Other qualifications having a proven track record in the field of functional genomics in plants are a plus.
- You are well acquainted with standard bioinformatics tools.

Bioinformatician / Scientific programmer (M/F)
Job description
You will design, test and implement application-specific algorithms and software that support scientific projects within CropDesign. Examples of such projects are the extension and maintenance of the Cropdesign knowledge bases and the support of gene discovery activities.
You will work closely with other colleagues in the bioinformatics/IT group, and you will interact with BPS-wide project teams.
Your profile
- You have a masters degree in biology, biotechnology or bio-engineering, with experience in biology related computing or bioinformatics.
- You are well acquainted with Java and databases. Experience with standard bioinformatics tools, bioinformatics languages and databases is a plus.
- You are communicative and fluent in English.
- You interact well in a team environment.
- Experience with project management is advantageous.

European Patent Attorney (M/F)
Job description
As an experienced intellectual property practitioner, you will be working in the field of plant biotechnology to advise R&D, marketing & product functions. Your role will entail the drafting and prosecution of patent applications in various jurisdictions around the world, dealing with oppositions and appeals, assessing third party patents and writing opinions on the same. In addition, your role will involve the drafting of licence agreements.
Your profile
- You have a PhD degree in biology, biotechnology or bio-engineering.
- You have gained direct experience of intellectual property either in industry or in private practice, preferably as a part-qualified European patent attorney.
- You are a team player who enjoys working as a part of a global team, committed to serving the company’s business units in all aspects of intellectual property and thereby contributing to the overall worldwide success of the company.
- You are comfortable working in the English language.
