CropDesign offers access to its rice-based TraitMill™ technology platform to phenotype the effect of genes of interest selected by the customer.

Customers can determine the questions posed to their crop of interest, and the type of data to be collected and analysed. Target traits are defined by the specific needs of the customer and can include for instance seed yield, seed composition, biomass, biomass composition, plant performance under either drought stress, salinity stress, cold stress, or nutrient stress. TraitMill™ monitors plant performance during the whole life cycle, therefore allowing to capture dynamic responses of the plant.

In a typical service contract, CropDesign commits to test a pre-agreed number of transgene constructs. These transgene constructs can be selected by the customer, or through a joint effort between customer and CropDesign scientists.

CropDesign will pursue cloning of the target genes, construction of plant transformation vectors, transformation of plants, and evaluation of the trait of interest in the progeny of the transgenic plants. All data will be processed using CropDesign's proprietary data analysis and data visualisation tools.

The in planta results delivered by CropDesign meet the USPTO's patent requirements for specific, credible and substantial utility.
