Robots lined up with conveyor systems automatically retrieve each plant as needed
and send it to an imaging unit for analysis at critical points during its growth cycle.
At full throughput over 30,000 pictures of plants are taken per day.
To ensure correct analysis of these pictures, each plant is tagged with a unique
transponder chip that is recorded automatically when the plant passes through
the imaging unit.
Proprietary algorithms are used to analyse the digital images and to extract
several parameters related to growth, yield and stress tolerance of the plants.
All results are statistically analysed to identify crops with improved
traits.
As the system is set up in a modular way, novel evaluation methods and parameters
can be easily added.
