Willem Broekaert

Prof. Broekaert holds a Ph.D. in agronomy sciences from the University of Leuven, Belgium (1988) and a master's degree in agricultural economics from the Institut de Gestion des Industries Agro-Alimentaires in Paris (1989).

From 1989 until joining the Company, he was associated with the FA Janssens Laboratory for Genetics at Leuven University, where he was nominated Professor in Plant Biotechnology and Plant Pathology in 1996. As the main inventor of several classes of anti-fungal peptides from plants, he became well known in the area of disease resistance research.

Prior to taking up his current position at CropDesign he was responsible for a broad research collaboration with Zeneca (now Syngenta).
