Rice is worldwide the number one crop in terms of farmgate value (over 100 Bio USD) and is the second largest crop in terms of acreage (over 150 Mio ha). The demand for rice is on the rise due to the growing world population, yet the increase in rice productivity is currently insufficient to close the demand gap. The rice industry is therefore waiting for novel yield-enhancement traits and CropDesign is poised to deliver those.
CropDesign has successfully completed a series of field trials with rice varieties engineered with proprietary yield-enhancing transgenes. These trials have demonstrated that CropDesign's traits can confer a double-digit yield advantage over non-engineered plants. The company is following a highly structured product development process to further advance these leads into varieties ready for registration and subsequent market introduction.
